USING TRASH FROM THE STREETS TO MAKE ART ON THE STREETS
“Ray Johnson Fan Club” is one of my Noms de Guerre.
I use only trash and found objects in my hand-cut & paste collages.
Then I usually leave them out on the street for anyone to enjoy (or destroy.)
I made and posted four stickers and one larger collage during a recent trip to Geneva, Switzerland.
RJFC Sticker #30 was actually made 5/4/2013 using trash found on the streets of London.
I made it while on the ferry from Dover to Calais.
I left it in Geneva, Switzerland 5/25/2013 on a public trash can in front of the Mont Blanc store on Quai du Général-Guisan. (above)
RJFC Sticker #31 was completed 5/17/2013 while sitting at “Le temps d’un café” in Mons, Belgium.
I left it in Geneva, Switzerland 5/26/2013 on a dog poop bag dispenser at a little park in Place de l’Octroi in the Carouge neighborhood.
RJFC Sticker #32 was completed 5/25/2013 using trash found on the streets of Geneva. I made it while visiting there at our rental apartment near Carouge.
I left it in Geneva, Switzerland 5/26/2013 on a roundabout street sign on Rue Charles-Galland, between the Museum of Art and History and the Palais de Justice. (above)
RJFC Sticker #33 was completed 5/26/2013 using trash found on the streets of Geneva. I made it while visiting there at our rental apartment near Carouge.
I left it 5/27/2013 on a large rusty planter in front of the Microcosm center at CERN (European Center for Nuclear Research) in Meyrin, just outside Geneva. (above)
It was a fairly productive visit for me and I also made one larger, record cover collage.

USING TRASH OFF THE STREETS TO MAKE ART ON THE STREETS.
I use only trash and found items to collage these handmade, signed & numbered stickers. They are made to compliment my larger works which in which I use trashy paperback book covers, record & magazine covers, posters, postcards and other mass-produced media as a base for my hand-cut & paste collages, which I usually leave out on the streets for anyone to enjoy (or destroy.)

Relationship XLIV – “Save your Kisses for the Saturdays of Summer”, a photo by LANCEPHOTO on Flickr.
Collage Relationship XLIV was completed and left on Sunday 7/22/2012 on Rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud in the 11th arrondissement in Paris, France.
While staying in Paris for the weekend and visiting the Montparnasse Cemetery, this collage was made using the back side of the LP “Exitos del Verano”.
I collected most of the material as trash from the streets of Paris during my visit there. – Notably, a small post-it message to Charles Baudelaire I found beside his grave. (note: I purposefully selected this particular item because it had already been blown off the grave slab and was likely to blow farther or be picked up as trash.) It says (in French) “For Charles, The greatest poet in the world. With Gratitude” – it is signed but I can’t quite make out the…

R.I.P. Lenny’s at Memorial & Harden in ATL
Before leaving Atlanta I wanted to leave one last collage at a certain place I must have passed a dozen times this last month.
“Lenny’s Food & Spirits” an abandoned building near the corner of Memorial Drive and Harden Street seems to have been a popular place when it was still going. From some of the artwork made on the walls it seems as though perhaps the property might have been sold to build high rise condos back before the housing crisis, and maybe the developers went bust before they could start building. But it was too late for poor old Lenny’s.
Just my speculation of course, but it looks as though some artists have been there to pay their respects and I thought I’d add my 2 cents worth.

“Keep it up whitey.” – “Don’t leave home without…”

Here’s where I left my latest collage on 7/24/11.
